Hub Poodle Club of OC

I’ve finally built the new (and first ever) web site for the Hub Poodle Club of Orange County.

I must say that I was pretty impressed with it because I had it up and running in less than six hours from start to finish. It’s basically another WordPress blog site, and I think it will be quite adequate for the purposes of the club.

My wife and I have been members and Board Members with HUB for about 4 or 5 years now. The club just celebrated its 50th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than to step up with the times and get some web presence. I hope the local Poodle Fanciers enjoy the site. I also hope that the club is able to attract new members and keep the momentum alive. It’s just in time for the annual Christmas Party!

You may have noticed that the look of my site has been changed. I’ve upgraded the Theme and the colors, not to mention the functionality. And I even passed the W3C inspection! I’m actually getting a feel for the XHTML system. Validation is a good thing and it’s quite a nice reward to be able to humbly display the W3C badge at the bottom of the page. For those of you who wish to learn more about these standards, there are many books available out there which go over XHTML & CSS. The one that I’ve been using is HTML, XHTML & CSS for Dummies by Andy Harris. It covers these subjects quite nicely, but it’s also one of those big fat All in One books that actually touches on several other important webmaster topics, such as JavaScript, PHP, MySQL and even AJAX! Very handy reference. Another bonus is that it’s not an old book so the tech is not out of date.

I guess I’m a sucker for the Dummies books, I must confess. The book I’m learning to Blog with is another Dummies book titled “Blogging for Dummies” by Susannah Gardner. I’m about halfway through it but it’s chock full of tips. Highly recommended.
